We made it to Japan after spending an unexpected night in San Diego. Our connecting plane never arrived, so the flight was cancelled. We had a nice evening by the huge marina in San Diego and flew out the following day. Once we landed in Tokyo we took a train from the airport to the main station where we caught the bullet train up to Karuizawa near Nagano. This part of Japan is mountainous, green and lush with dense forest full of fern and a beautiful variety of plants and flowers.
Thankfully, Chris and Tracy Walker arrived on time the day before and had the program going when the rest of us arrived with major jet-lag. We are 16 hours ahead of Texas time.
Our team of 8 is supporting Bethel missionaries, Robert and Roberta Adair, by handling all the children’s programming for their organization’s annual conference. Asian Access missionaries from all over Japan are here, and are privileged to serve and lead their children while the adults are in meetings.
Through arrival day 1 and 2 we have had 4 sessions with the kids; each session includes a Bible story from the life of Moses, crafts, snacks, worship, games and video. Cherissa Roebuck has done an amazing job of organizing all our program from The Gospel Project, which is the curriculum that Bethel children’s ministry uses. Simeon Garner and Maggie Roebuck played the role of Pharaoh and Pharaoh’s daughter with excellent dramatic flair. Jane Garner has led all the crafts, and Ricky Garner, Chris Walker and Jeff Bice have been great assistants helping the kids rotate through the areas and leading an occasional Bible story or memory verse session.
