International Students - Tyler, TX
There are large communities of students from India, Asia, the Middle East, and other countries in many of the large cities, but they are also right here in Tyler, TX. There are over 1.2 million students studying in the US, and less than 25% ever get invited into an American home. UT Tyler ranks in the top 26% of colleges and universities for popularity among international students, and there are currently over 30 nations represented at UT Tyler. If each one of us took the time to invite a few students into our home to share a meal, or a holiday, or game night to develop a friendship, imagine the impact we could have by sharing the love of Christ that they will carry with them as they move away. For some, these friendships are so different, it will open the door to share the gospel message which will change their lives for eternity.
Jordi & Bern Vilahur
Unreached People Groups - Spain
Spain has nearly 1 million people who are considered unreached. Although many living in Spain would say they are Christians, according to the Joshua project less than 2% are considered evangelical Christians. Many Catholics are disenfranchised with the organized church. Camp is a place where kids have fun, make new friends, and come away with the gospel, returning home with a new hope found in Christ. Jordi and Bern Vilahur work at L’Arcada Camp, a part of the Greater Europe Missions camps. Their main camps in the summer are American sports camps and Indian Camps. They teach football & basketball skills during sports camps, and crafts, games and traditions of the Indians during Indian camps. All the campers live in teepees for the week. They present the gospel at all their camps and many have received Christ. Camping is a family affair with their 2 grown boys, and Isaac who is still at home. Church Planting - Nicaragua
Institutos Biblicos De Los Americas Y El Caribe – IBAC. Ometepe Island is located in SW Nicaragua in the middle of a volcanic lake. Catholicism is the dominant religion, although it is mixed with some folklore. The island has an economy based on livestock, agriculture, and tourism, and they are known for a type of ceramic pottery. There is one airport that services the island. The mission of Bethel Bible Church and the mission of IBAC go hand in hand – both desiring to develop leaders and train them in advanced Biblical education. The mission statement for IBAC is to equip pastors and leaders in Latin America through mobile/modular theological education in partnership with local churches. Most of the indigenous pastors have had no formal training and don’t have access to a seminary. IBAC provides the curriculum, the planning, the facilities, and gathers the pastors. Then partnering with IBAC, Bethel has been sending teams twice a year to train these pastors on Bible study techniques, Biblical history, and Doctrine. It’s a fun experience and a chance to meet new friends in Christ.
