With day 3 wrapped up we have seen God take a group from Tyler and a group from West Dallas unite with a common purpose. Each day the students spend quite a bit of time in God’s word and are then able to let the Word of God come to life in them as they pour into the lives of the Mercy Street interns and the children in the surrounding communities.
Today our team broke up into two groups and went into two different neighborhoods. One group walked around and invited children and families to “Super Thursday” at Mercy Street, while the other group got to spend time playing baseball and basketball with some of the neighborhood kids. This trip is continuing to reveal to us that we are all created in the image of God. This common thread between us is drawing us together as the body of Christ. It has been incredible to see these young men and women grow this week.
This afternoon we were able to take a little field trip with the Mercy Street staff to downtown Dallas and spend the afternoon at Klyde Warren Park. This park is built right on top of hwy 75. We played football and enjoyed just hanging out with one another.
Today wrapped up with a delicious meal at Bucca Di Beppo. It’s a family style italian restaurant and was a perfect end to a day that was full of God developing relationships and showing us that we are all one family in Jesus Christ. As we passed large plates of pasta we were able to share stories and laugh with one another. It was a beautiful picture of how God takes people from all different walks of life and joins as a family.
Tomorrow the students will be getting ready for the big event of the week. Mercy Street calls is Super Thursday. It is similar to a backyard Bible club and we are excited to see the students serve along side the Mercy Street interns as they lead Bible studies, play games, and connect with more children and families from the community.
